January Blues Festival are thrilled to present a night where we celebrate the Blues Divas.
From Bessie Smith and Ma Rainey through to Etta James, Ruth Brown, Big Mama Thornton, Koko Taylor, Big Maybelle and Irma Thomas this will be a night featuring some of the finest blues songs such as ‘I’d Rather Go Blind’, ‘At Last’, ‘Time Is On My Side’, ‘Nobody Knows You When You’re Down And Out’, ‘Runaway Blues’, ‘Hound Dog’, ‘That’s a Pretty Good Love’, ‘I Just Want To Make Love To You’, ‘Wang Dang Doodle’, ‘I Don’t Know’ and many more.
Direct from Washington DC, USA, Robbin ‘Soul Shaker’ Kapsalis has gained fame with her band Vintage #18.The UK’s own Alice Armstrong has been described as “Perfection” by Blues in Britain Magazine and has won fans such as BBC 6 Music’s Craig Charles. Direct from Italy, Daria Biancardi is our final guest vocalist who will pay tribute to the blues divas and their music.
