Vocalist with The Bodysnatchers and The Specials launches new album Version Girl on Sunday Best Recordings.
Rhoda Dakar started her career in 1979 as the lead vocalist with 2-Tone Records group The Bodysnatchers. The band hit the charts with a cover of the Dandy Livingstoneclassic Let’s Do Rock Steady. The Bodysnatchers toured with The Specials, Toots and the Maytals, and The Selecter before splitting in 1980.
Rhoda joined The Specials for the More Specials and In The Studio albums and co-wrote the seminal Free Nelson Mandela single. In 2014, she released the Rhoda Dakar sings the Bodysnatchers album which consisted of songs performed live but never recorded by The Bodysnatchers.
Version Girl is the debut album from Rhoda Dakar on Sunday Best Recordings and features Rhoda covering songs by Morrissey, David Bowie, The Pretenders, Patsy Cline, Louis Armstrong, Tim Buckley, The Stranglers, Maxime Le Forestier, The Rolling Stones, Boudleaux Bryant, & Nick Lowe.
