Comprised of Skye natives Daniel Docherty and Martyn MacDonald, Valtos has made waves in both the Trad and Electronic music scenes since their debut in December 2021. Their unique sound, described by Folk Radio UK as “like nothing you’ve heard before,” blends electronic beats with folk influences, drawing inspiration from artists like Martyn Bennett, Peatbog Faeries, Odesza, Madeon, and Bicep.
Valtos’ self-titled debut album, released in June 2022, features collaborations with notable artists such as Donnie Munro (Runrig), Lana Pheutan, Eilidh Cormack (Sian), Gary Innes (Mànran), Euan McLaughlin (An Dannsa Dub), and Allan MacDonald (Niteworks). The band went on to release 9 collaborative singles across 2022-early 2024 with a variety of artists including Julie Fowlis, Elephant Sessions, Project Smok, Gnoss, Lewis McLaughlin, Cathal Murphy and more. Their live performances have captivated audiences at sold-out shows and festivals, including a standout performance at SWG3 for Celtic Connections in 2024, where they sold 1300 tickets in a matter of weeks.
On stage, Valtos is joined by a full live band, including Lana Pheutan, Eilidh Cormack, Finn MacPherson, and Euan McLaughlin, delivering energetic and unforgettable performances. Their innovative approach earned them the Up and Coming Artist of the Year award at The Scots Trad Awards 2022 and a nomination for Best Live Act in 2023.
