Innervisions Festival
featuring
WERKHA (Live)
+ RICHARD SPAVEN TRIO
A mouth-watering double bill for Innervisions 2018.
Werkha’s productions demonstrate an infectious energy, curiosity, and enthusiasm for exploring the ways in which sound can traverse time and space, taking in transatlantic jazz and soul, diasporic West African percussion, trembling Chinese guzhengs, rolling Lancashire hillsides and vibrating urban tenements.
Continuously championed by the media and radio personalities and tastemakers, such as Gilles Peterson, Rob da Bank, BBC R1’s Monki, John Kennedy at Radio X, BBC 6Music’s Lauren Laverne, Werkha has no choice but to further expand his already wide musical ideas in depth and breadth, exploring the possibilities of movement through sound.
Richard Spaven has supplied the drums for many artists on stage and in the studio: José James, Flying Lotus, The Cinematic Orchestra, Guru’s Jazzmatazz, Gregory Porter to name but a few.
His latest album, ’The Self’ (2017) explores and defies genres, from Drum ’n’ Bass to Broken Beat to Dubstep and more, seen through the lens of a drummer. The album features the likes of Jordan Rakei, Jameszoo, pianist Kris Bowers, MC Cleveland Watkiss and Richard’s established partner in crime, guitarist and composer Stuart McCallum.
